Now in its 8th year, the SUT Golf Challenge Cup competition continues to attract a large number of players of varying standards. Twenty-five teams of three competed for some valuable prizes generously donated by a wide range of offshore companies. So popular has this day become that we are only able to feature it on the web page diary. Naturally the sponsor companies get first choice for tee times—and they usually fill the day between them. There has to be a moral there somewhere! Along with all other golf courses in the country, Newmachar's Hawkshill course was suffering from a lack of rain, which added an extra challenge to the day; the gale force winds didn't help either.

First prize went to Dave Matthews (38 points), who will have his name engraved on the cup and who went home with a small replica plus two tickets to Amsterdam, donated by IME/Oceaneering. Second prize, bed and breakfast for two at St Andrews Bay Golf Resort and Spa (donated by the Spa), went to Mark Finch (38 points). Third prize of a voucher for a round of golf for four people at Newmachar (donated by McDermid Canning) plus a voucher worth £50 for Kings Links Pro shop (donated by Technip Offshore) was won by Colin Shellard (36 points). Fourth prize, with 36 points, was won by Mike Mahaney who received a Kings Links voucher for £50 (donated by Technip Offshore) and a presentation bottle of malt whisky (donated by Munros Travel). Fifth prize with 36 points was Phil Rickard who won a golf bag donated by C.U.T. Ltd.

First team prize of three bottles of Laphroig (donated by Underwater Contractor magazine) was won by Mike Mahaney, Ronald Hay and Norman McBain with 95 points (53 inward half). Second team prize of three bottles of whiskey (donated by Weathernews Ltd) was won by Phil Bremner, George Cooper and Colin Shelland with 95 points (51 inward half). Third team prize of presentation wine sets (donated by Circle Technical Services) was won by Dave Matthews, Alan Berry and Mike Miller, also with 95 points (44 inward half). Fourth team prize of presentation pen sets (donated by Duco Ltd) went to Ian Carrol, John Ibbotson and Les Latham with 90 points.

Mike Mahaney also won the longest drive at the 12th and was presented with a hold-all and tee-shirts (donated by Ashtead Technology Ltd). Ronald Hay won the Newmchar windcheater (donated by MacDermid Canning) for the longest drive at the 17th. Wayne Jackson was nearest the pin at the 15th and was delighted to receive a wedge (donated by Fugro Survey Ltd). Mike Watson collected a putter (donated by Subsea7) for his nearest-the-pin at the 9th. John McKay won a diver’s watch (donated by Divex) for his nearest-the-pin at the 6th. A bottle of Bollinger (donated by Tritech International Ltd) was for the best lady golfer over 50!! No prizes for guessing who took that home with her!

JP Kenny, once again, provided drinks and chocolate bars that were dispensed by buggy on the course.

A raffle, in support of SUT's Educational Support Fund, collected £275 and the prizes were provided by the generosity of some of the aforementioned sponsors plus Kongsberg Simrad Ltd, Nautronix Group Ltd, Seatronics Ltd, Sonsub Ltd, Tritech International and Waverley Press.

In presenting the prizes, Jean Pritchard gave SUT's thanks to sponsors for their unwavering support of this enjoyable event and to Joyce Bremner who does most of the work to make it the success it is.
