DML's advanced composite solutions provide structural strengthening and pressure containment. We have extensive international experience in the rehabilitation of pipes, pressure vessels, storage tanks and structures, such as decks, blast walls and ships. To date we have focused on topside repairs, but we are now planning to initiate a JIP looking at the subsea repair of caissons, risers and even main trunk lines.

CUI — Corrosion Under Insulation — An Industry Wide Problem

Our client experienced CUI on a 40mt high Ammine Vessel, the Vessel was 3.5mt diameter and 16mm Carbon Steel Wall Thickness with bonded internal wall lining of 3mm thick 316L Stainless Steel. The external Carbon Steel suffered a wall loss of average 12mm full circumference at the 20mt level external stiffening ring which greatly affected the Structural Integrity of the vessel to the extent it was close to the point of collapse. As a short term solution the client employed the use of a retro-fit fabricated full circumference clamp to transfer a 20 tonne load down through 40mm stud rods at 500mm PCD to a supporting clamp below. Various options had been considered prior to the point where we at WTR were called in to Engineer a Composite Solution to replace this short term clamping arrangement and therefore provide a long term 'life of field' Composite Repair. This repair was carried out live 'On Line' therefore negating the requirement for production shutdown and saved the operator considerable and significant costs.
