Snøhvit Subsea Development – Our 'Coolest' Project Ever

Snøhvit LNG is the first field development in the Barents sea (artic areas). It is due to start LNG production in October 2006. The presentation mainly covers the description of the scope of supply of the subsea equipment, its challenges with respect to technology development and testing, and further general description of the LNG plant and the subsea field development.

The presentation focuses on the technical and logistical achievements in executing the ultra-long offset subsea-to-beach project. It also covers the implementation of the fibre-optic communications, subsea data routing, high voltage and power distribution technologies; the Backup Intervention Control System (BUICS) designed for use in the event of main umbilical non-availability; and the philosophy used for project execution and testing of this industry leading subsea control system.
