Block 18
12 March 2008 Aberdeen Evening Meeting
Chairman David Kaye, BP
Sponsored by Acergy, BP, FMC Technologies and Technip
Overview
The Block 18 Greater Plutonio project in Angola was completed and came on-stream at the end of 2007. The project is a partnership between BP and the Angolan state-owned oil company Sonangol. Block 18 is currently BP's largest deepwater subsea project, incorporating a large spread moored subsea development and an initial 17 subsea wells which will increase to over 40 wells. The project features some significant subsea concepts including the large buoyancy tank tensioned riser tower, nine subsea manifolds, over 200km if flowlines and umbilicals and a number of novel operational and monitoring systems.
This evening meeting consisted of an overview presentation by BP, presenting the field overview, concept and key technical challenges. This was then followed by detailed presentations from three of the key subcontractors of the project. FMC presented the subsea production system, including manifolds, trees and connectors. Acergy presented the design, fabrication and installation of the SURF system, including the riser tower, umbilicals, flexibles and J-laid flowlines. Technip presented the design and installation of the reeled water injection system.
