Deployment of the Oyster Wave Energy Converter

Dr David Kaye, Engineering Manager, Aquamarine Power

The first full-scale Oyster wave energy converter was deployed at EMEC in Orkney in 2009. This presentation describes the Oyster concept and the design, manufacture, testing and installation of the first Oyster 1 device, including integrated system testing performed at NaREC in Blyth.

Testing and Monitoring a Marine Renewable Energy Device

Paul McKeever, Electrical Engineering Specialist, Narec

The Oyster Power Take-Off (PTO) system was developed and tested by Narec, (a national centre dedicated to accelerating the deployment and grid integration of renewable energy and low carbon technologies) on behalf of Aquamarine Power, between 2007 and 2009. As well as describing the Oyster PTO system, the aim of this presentation is to demonstrate the rationale and some of the detail behind the testing and instrumentation of a marine renewable energy device using Oyster as a prime example.
